California Workers' Compensation Insurance
Workers Compensation Insurance is often referred to as Workers’ Comp.
Workers Compensation Insurance provides medical care reparation for employees who are hurt while working for the insured employer.
The compensation is interchanged for the employee to give up his or her ability to take legal action against the employer because of the tort of negligence. Plans will vary based on the jurisdictions & provisions, which can be made for:
- Compensation for economic losses.
- Medical and health reimbursements.
- Paying benefits to dependents of a killed worker.
Businesses are required by law to ensure that their workplaces are safe. Unfortunately, accidents are always a possibility, no matter how safe your business may be. If an accident happens to an employee, workers compensation insurance can act as your safety net.
Workers compensation can often be mutually beneficial. It covers medical bills and partial income loss to the injured employee in return for protection from lawsuits for the employer. If the employee dies on the job, the employee's family will receive benefits.
Workers compensation insurance only takes effect if your employee is injured or killed while working for your business. Accidents that occur in transit to or from work are not covered. Depending on occupational hazards, workers compensation can also take effect if it is proven that an employee contracts certain illnesses or diseases as a direct result of employment to your business.
Workers compensation premiums are based on your business’s payroll and classification code. Businesses are rated for their risk level, for example, premiums for a logging business will be higher than for an ice cream shop. Location can also be a factor. If your business is based in a particularly dangerous city, premiums may be higher.
